Panthers Pick 9th

With life sometimes getting in the way, Carolina lost the coin flip and will pick 9th in the draft (instead of 8th). Carolina apparently alternates picks with Miami (who tied until the coin toss) and Buffalo, though some sites have just Carolina/Miami alternating.

What we do know? Carolina's ahead of Miami with the 2nd rounder, so they'll pick 40th .

And since money is always an object? Last year's 9th overall pick, Tyron Smith of the Cowboys, signed for $12.49 million, and it's highly unlikely that Carolina sign whoever they'd draft there for much more. $7.588 million was the signing bonus, so round it out to 8 million for our guy (meaning a rough 2012 cap number of $2 million prorated bonus, plus $400k salary, for $2.4 million).

That might seem like a lot of money, but consider the market contract for Charles Johnson at $12 million per year, versus the will-they, won't-they tension of a Quentin Coples at $2.4 million.
